I recall an episode of Quincy in which it was a plot point that a rabbi

The rabbi couldn't sit and pray *beside* the freezer where it's warmer?
I had never heard of attending a dead body before at all.

You've never heard of a 'viewing' the evening before the funeral where
it looks like a small chapel with the open coffin instead of a pulpit?
Typically in these those who wish to can go forward and say their last
goodbyes. Those who don't stay in their seats. . . .
You are discussing something that has nothing whatsoever to do with my
discussion of this old tv episode. The character claimed the body had to
be attended for 24 hours after death.
