I had originally planned to watch "Trap" yesterday, but got to it too late, and I went in another direction. But I also ran across something that floored me yesterday!:
soaps: Y&R - Thur's & Fri's ep. I hope Billy follows through, and is done with Jill after her massive betrayal. I also hope Lily refuses to go back to working at Winters. (I'm still kind of hoping that Billy, Lily and Audra team up for some REVENGE!!...) LOL! Audra catches the bouquet at Abby's wedding, after trashing the concept of marriage. Victor orders Diane to fire Kyle *at the wedding*, which she does. But then Diane and Jack are about to reveal to Kyle what we already knew - that their very public "separation" was all a ruse to expose to Kyle that Victor is nothing more than a user-asshole... In the most disappointing development, it turns out that Ian Ward (Ray Wise!!) and Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk from ATWT) are behind everything, and have been framing Sharon. >:/ Sharon confesses her "guilt" to Nick, who seem put back by it, to say the least! Filis[sic] seems pretty messed up by the car accident (we won't find out how messed up until the coming week).
So, then I turned on Tubi, and was blown away!!:
Tubi was offering the stream of Houston vs. Arizona football game last night (which aired on FS1?), and the magic words "*available in 4k*" were shown on my Apple TV box! And, indeed - looking at the game it probably was showing in 4k (though I suspect this was 1080p "upscaled" to 4k on Fox's end, rather than true "4k")... Still, I never expected a simple college football game to be available in 4k, and certainly not from Tubi of all places!!
I wonder if this is a sign that the streaming of more sporting events in 4k is about to become more commonplace...
For the movie, I didn't feel like "Trap", and I found almost nothing I wanted to watch on any of Tubi, Amazon Prime or Peacock. But on Hulu, I once again ran across...:
Children of the Corn (2020) (Hulu) - There's a monster in the corn! It's a CORN MONSTER!!1!
FTR, I still have never seen the 1984 original. But I have seen the 2009 Sci-Fi channel reboot film (with Kandyse McClure!!) which as far as I can tell is pretty faithful to the original short story (note: the 2009 film doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere...). I may have seen 1 or 2 of the random direct-to-video sequels to the 1984 film, though I couldn't tell you that I remembered anything about them.
I thought this 2020 "reboot" was both not as bad as the critical reviews and IMDb score would have you believe, but also still very disappointing.
On the "good side", I thought lead was Elena Kampouris was quite good in this. And it is pretty horrific what the awful children do end up doing.
On the bad side - this has almost nothing to do with the original short story, outside of the basic premise. None of the events in the original story seem to happen here, and both the setting (the town) and the characters are different - e.g. the story's leads are mostly men/boys, but here the lead is a female teen, and the head of the children of the corn cult is a little girl (Kate Moyer).
In addition, the critical reviews were correct that this flick is all over the map - it introduces a bunch of different elements and ideas, and then never follows up nearly any of them. For example, nearly all the adults in the town seem to be variously EVOL!, and I figured it was going to be revealed that they became EVOL! under the malevolent influence of the EVOL!!!1! corn spirit as a way for the malevolent corn spirit to then posses the children, but this is never followed up on or explained.
And this is YA horror movie that is ruined by its final "twist" scene which is dumb.
