 "Nigger" is offensive irregardless of the ethnicity of the speaker. No
sane non-racist should think anybody gets a free pass on naughty

But, afaics, blacks speaking of blacks use 'nigger' play-offensively ...much like we might use "sonofabitch".

If I knew Mrs Goldstein's name was Goldstein I certainly wouldn't say
"Merry Christmas" - but then I deliberately avoid awkwardness while
recognizing I might occasionally put my foot in it out of ignorance.

Afaik, insult always involves intent.  I never understand claims to the contrary.
