[OT] Man who caused death of his passenger given reduced sentence for being black

An 18 year old who killed one of his passengers when he lost control of his car while driving at ridiculous speeds - and injured the rest of them - has received a reduced sentence simply for being black.

The mother of the woman killed is trying to understand why the man's skin colour should be a factor in the sentence given his flagrant carelessness in operating the car. So am I.
A group lobbying for different treatment of black offenders says the fact that blacks are over-represented in prisons is sufficient justification for reducing the sentence.
