An 18 year old who killed one of his passengers when he lost control of
his car while driving at ridiculous speeds - and injured the rest of
them - has received a reduced sentence simply for being black.

The mother of the woman killed is trying to understand why the man's
skin colour should be a factor in the sentence given his flagrant
carelessness in operating the car. So am I.

A group lobbying for different treatment of black offenders says the
fact that blacks are over-represented in prisons is sufficient
justification for reducing the sentence.
