Yes, there's the potential of that happening but unless you are
actively protesting the CCP it is unlikely they care enough to arrest

It's not just citizens of the PRC but anyone of Chinese ethnicity.
 
It's for this reason several Canadian Confucius Institutes have been
closed as the Canadian government believes that as opposed to simply
teaching French or German (as the Alliance Francaise and Goethe
Institutes do) there's an intelligence recruitment operation and
propagandizing taking place there - especially the ones that were
based either on campuses or in close geographic proximity to campuses.
It has also been suggested that 3rd and 4th generation Canadian
Chinese have been targetted particularly those with family in HK or
elsewhere in China. Despite that roughly 30% of ALL Canadian
immigrants are from the PRC (and another 20-25% from India neither of
which are currently "democracy friendly")

I was with you until you implied that India was not a democracy. Care
to explain? I know that Modi is a Hindu nationalist but he hasn't
suspended elections or blocked opponents from running in elections as
far as I know.
