I find lots of people online with my actual legal first name (as
opposed to the name I live by which is a shortened version of my
middle name) as does my daughter (who has a common first name)
 
And while my surname is shorter than hers, I've checked and there are
no other people with my surname anywhere in BC that are not nephew /
niece or closer.
 
You tend to have a different view of things than folks with more
common names - for instance I know two "Charlie Smith" s - and I
haven't even tried to look up Charles Smith... (one is a local
newspaper editor who 15 years ago interviewed my late wife, the other
is my daughter's long term boyfriend)

I once worked in a department where two guys had the exact same name
(first name + last name). I don't remember the name any more but it
wasn't quite as common as "Bill Smith". Anyway, they were CONSTANTLY
getting each other's emails and forwarding them to one another. There
were maybe 200 people in the department if I recall correctly.
