Why is it unjust to insist on ID when one is registering to vote?
When I voted in the last election (remember I'm a Canadian) I brought
my voter card showing where to vote + my drivers' licence. I saw other
people with various other kinds of ID - they were flexible on what ID
they would accept but they DID require some sort of ID.
After I voted I asked how many people were registered to vote from my
address - then explained that my wife had passed away since the last
election... (they seemed unhelpful until I mentioned that and said
"are there two or three? there WERE three in the last election, now
only two" and they did say two so I thanked them and went on my way.
This is the bullshit coming to the top again. I've said this a hundred times; asking for ID isn't unreasonable.
Making it a requirement AND THEN MAKING IT INCREDIBLY HARD IS.
Like a state making it OK to use a state issued Hunting License, but refusing a state issued Student ID.
Why? Because they don't want one of those groups voting.
Like a state making the prospective voter get a birth certificate from their place of birth. Impossible in some cases... because that's what they want it to be.
The find something that's difficult to do, and they mandate you do that.
It isn't about identification, it's designed for disqualification.
Like making it mandatory that your current signature match the signature when you registered. Does anyone's signature today match their signature from 40 years ago? And how the fuck would you know?
