UNDER PARIS (The Netflixes) Killer beastie movie about a giant mako
shark that changes its behavior and birthing process due to
environmental pressure (climate change, natch) and travels up the Seine
where it takes up residence in the flooded catacombs beneath Paris to
birth its brood.

Carnage ensues when it uses a pre-Olympics triathlon as a smorgasbord
buffet. Best part of the film was when a barely-disguised eco-kook
stand-in for Greta Thunberg gets ripped to shreds by the shark while
trying to thwart the police and save it. Reminds me of the eco-kook who
was gored to death by the bulls in Pamplona as she was trying to save
them during their famous run.

The movie was decent enough for this genre of flick right up until about
the last three minutes when it devolved into SHARKNADO level of
ridiculousness.


GODZILLA MINUS ONE (The Netflixes) For some reason I thought this was an
animated movie and so I gave it a pass when it first came out. But when
the trailer started auto-playing and I realized it was live action, I
settled in to give it a watch.

Pretty good as far as "giant monsters stomping on cities" movies go. You
actually see people dying in this one, which is rare. Most of these
kinds of movies, you know hundreds of thousands of people are dying as
the monsters level entire buildings one after another but it's very
bloodless. You never see the carnage. Not so with this movie. The SFX
were also top notch.
