Renewed for season #4 before season #3 even airs.
I am curious to see if they recover from season #2, which most people
didn't like for "departing from the formula",

They pretty much stuck to the book from beginning to end, and the book was
a bestseller, so I'm not sure what they should have done differently.

or if they double-down on season #2 and ignore the fundamental "Reacher
is a lone wolf who takes
bad guys down all on this own!" premise of this.

There have been many REACHER books that don't have him taking on everything
by himself. Even the first book/season he formed an ad hoc team with Willa
Fitzgerald and Malcolm Goodwin to take on the counterfeiters.

Several of the Reacher books are set back in time when he was an Army MP
and involve him and his special investigators solving cases. Anyone who
says REACHER is fundamentally about him being a lone wolf and never working
with anyone else doesn't really know the source material.
Well that's the question. Are the majority of the viewers people that
would have liked the original books or are they more into what we saw
in the movies and the first season. That is Reacher as the guy who
goes his own way to take down the bad guys. I liked both versions,
the loner and the guy who leads a team, but I don't know if that's the
same way most viewers feel.
