I just finished watching a new(ish) Netflix film called Hit Man and want to suggest that people have a look at it. It's got a 6.8 rating on IMDB and I realize that isn't particularly high but I liked it because the plot didn't go the way I thought it would in most respects.
The premise is odd and, admittedly, implausible. A college professor who works part time for the police servicing spy gear has to pinch hit for a real police officer when the cop gets suspended: he has to pretend to be a hit man long enough for the person that wants someone killed to incriminate himself and be arrested. To everyone's surprise, including his own, he's great at it and starts racking up arrests. Then, he meets a lovely young Latina woman who wants to kill an abusive husband and he doesn't want her to go to jail for the bad fortune of being shackled to this asshole so he talks her into leaving her husband rather than killing him.
He realizes he's fallen for her and courts her in his hit man persona. One thing leads to another and then things get really complicated. I found the resolution both inevitable (in terms of logic) and surprising but I won't spoil that for you.
The leads are Glen Powell, whom I've never seen in anything before, and Adria Arjona. On reading her IMDB article, it seems I have seen her in a few things before, like True Detective, but I don't remember her in them. I'd say BTR would like her a lot given that she is a cute Latina, which he says he's especially fond of.
