A major controversy is taking place in Mississauga, Ontario, which is
immediately west of Toronto. A group of Muslim activists is holding a
vigil for Yahyah Sinwar on Nov 26 at City Hall. The mayor insisted that
it was not a real event but the evidence seems to say otherwise.

They say the antidote to distasteful speech is more speech. Maybe
ordinary people need to hold a celebration of Netanyahu or the IDF to
counter the pro-Hamas crowd. Imagine if the turnout from the pro-Israel
crowd dwarfed the turnout of the pro-Hamas crowd! The problem is that I
don't know if it would: we have far more Muslims than Jews in this
country now and I'm not sure what number of non-Jews would appear for
such an event. If it wasn't a really big turnout, it would probably do
more harm than good and make the pro-Hamas crowd seem much more popular
than it is.
According to the 2021 Canadian census that would be 1.8 million
Muslims and 335,000 Jews.
I would have expected the percentages to be similar in the US BUT
https://www.prri.org/research/2020-census-of-american-religion/
says Muslims, Jews and Buddhists are about 1% of the US population
each (it gave strictly percentages no numbers)
I do know the lack of balance in Canada is already having impact - (a)
the sacking of BC cabinet minister Selena Robinson from the NDP
cabinet was considered to be directly due to anti-Semiticism in both
the NDP caucus and civil service and (b) there have been several trade
unions which played a direct role in anti-Israel demonstrations in BC
within the past 6 months.
It is interesting to speculate on how or whether the death today of
former BC premier John Horgan will affect things as his successor
(from the same party) David Eby was considered much more willing to
pander to Muslim interests than Horgan was and while the BC NDP will
certainly give Horgan the mother of all send offs Eby is likely to
take the gloves off once his mentor is buried.
By "taking the gloves off", I assume you mean Eby will amplify his support of Muslims rather than diminish it?
