ABC Developing High-Concept Medical Drama Vital Signs From Grand
Hotel Creator Brian Tanen & Kapital  (Nov. 22)

["Its heroine, Emmy Correll, is in a rut. She wishes her dull,
disappointing life was more like her favorite medical drama Vital Signs
where the characters are life-saving heroes with endlessly exciting
love lives. But when Emmy's wish comes true, and she is transported INTO
the show, she must confront whether this new life is what she truly
wants. Waking up in a TV show is disorienting! Especially because in
this world, Emmy is apparently a newly hired doctor. But once she gets
over the shock, she realizes she’s seen every episode; and she knows
what's going to happen. And that means here, in this world, she's kind
of a genius."]

That is *very* "high concept" alright!

I've seen nearly every episode of House M.D. and I couldn't rattle off
most of the diagnoses appropriate to symptoms, but it's never lupus.

Why can't HBO programming executives just admit that they took the drugs

There's no replacement if you live in a low density or rural area with
no cable plant and no broadband from the phone company. Hell, I've seen
farmers with BIG DISH installed.
>
There is some replacements now depending upon how much TV you watch.
With T-Mobile and Verizon and Starlink all offering wireless Internet
and then DirecTV and others offering streaming versions of their TV
services you go cable free without going DirecTV/Dish satellite
service. Admittedly it's not going to work for a house full of people
or if you watch a large amount of TV as you'll probably run up against
monthly usage limits, but for those that don't need the TV on all the
time it can work.

What does that have to do with rural and low density? There may be too
little population for there to be one type of service, let alone
competition.

There are a handful of rural telephone cooperatives that managed federal
grants to build out somewhat adequate infrastructure for lower speed
broadband. That didn't happen everywhere. Cell phone towers aren't built
with too few people. Also, you do know that the back haul from a cell
phone antenna is T-1, right? It still must connect with the physical
phone network at the central office,

In rural areas, yeah, small-dish satellite downlink may be the only
television offering and it's just not economical to build out adequate
broadband internet via cable or telephone.
