Turns out there's a reason for that commercial. Apparently what they
were selling wasn't selling so they are trying to reinvent the
company. The ad is their (strange) way of starting to do so. As part
of this plan they aren't selling any cars now as they work on what
will sell and redesign their entire product line.
It's a strange approach to reinventing the product line but I guess if
they truly weren't selling any cars (or enough to cover their costs)
then stopping production while they redesign and retool makes sense.
I just don't get what they think that ad is going to do for them. It's
going to be forgotten long before they have any new cars to sell.
In contrast, while Jaguar is pushing debauchery and they/thems, Volvo just put
out the most moving, pro-family, pro-life ad of all time. And it even has cars
in it:
