 Have you considered trying for a few audiobooks via
the ipad or iphone? I isn't flashing pictures on the
screen, but at least it might offer some measure of
entertainment better than nothing.
 Just an idea.
 Nyssa, who found out she can't listen to audiobooks
while driving because she gets too involved in the story
and misses her exits
 

I like to listen to pod casts while I'm on public transportation or sometimes when I'm out and about downtown.  But I usually don't listen to them when I'm driving.
There's a podcast for every topic under the sun and free.
I think anim already mentioned he likes Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, and it's also a YouTube page so there's the option of just listening or also watching:
