Honduran President Xiomara Castro just issued a threat to President
Trump, saying she'll shutdown U.S. military bases if he deports Honduran
nationals.
As I suspected, the U.S. base is militarily irrelevant for us and is used primarily
for flying in that $780 million of U.S. tax payer funded foreign aid...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soto_Cano_Air_BaseThe U.S. government once used Palmerola (as previously known) as a base of operations
to support its foreign policy objectives in the 1980s. Now the U.S. military uses Soto Cano
as a launching point for humanitarian aid missions throughout Honduras and Central
America.[3]
I expect her loss will be considerably more than a billion dollars. I'll
bet remittances from Hondurans living in America is worth a very pretty
penny and is a major plus to the families that get them and to the
government itself, assuming they tax those remittances. Deporting
Hondurans back to Honduras is going to put a very major dent in that
remittance money AND any taxes collected on those remittances.
Why would such remittances be declared made subject to taxation?
Well, not directly taxed but that money is spent in Honduras and that gets taxed and
that money amounted to _$3.4 BILLION_ in American money going back to Honduras
from migrants (and that was in 2016, it's no doubt FAR higher nowadays).
