So, I just discovered recently that this is based on novel by famous
(infamous?) author, Cormac McCarthy, the guy who also wrote "Blood
Meridian" which they've been trying to adapt into a movie for decades
and have continually failed!

I didn't know they were still trying to adapt it.

Did you know his birth name was Charles?

Infamous?

For television, he wrote The Gardener's Son; his play The Sunset Limited
was adapted for HBO. Movie adaptations were All the Pretty Horses (but
not the other two novels in the trilogy), The Road, and Child of God.

I supposed one of these days I need to watch "No Country For Old Men",
but it's never been a high priority.

True Grit (blu-ray) 2010 movie written by Joel and Ethan Coen and
directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.  Bailee Steinfeld

Hailee.

stars as a 14 year
old girl in the old West out for revenge against the man (Josh Brolin)
who murdered her father. To bring him to justice she hires an alcoholic
lawman (Jeff Bridges) because he has "true grit." Matt Damon also
costars as a Texas lawman who teams up with them. This is a pretty good
Western.

I'm pretty sure that the consensus is that this is a better adaptation
than the earlier John Wayne film.

They were trying to make a Tracy/Hepburn film and significantly changed
the characters from the novel.
