In traditional Hollywood storytelling, the kind we grew up with as opposed to the kind they do now, you couldn't possibly tell her story as it actually happened unless you changed the ending so that she paid for her crimes in some way, either by being caught by a determined lawman, or perhaps by being horribly tormented about her crimes in some major way.
In today's Hollywood, it's different. They could make her a folk hero and even a proof that even the most monstrous among us could be reformed by the simple expedient of a fresh start in a new place.
