Dexter: Original Sin(season 1 finale) (10 pm, Showtime)

All I've heard is that it's totally out of continuity with the original
series!

We will have a long discussion after it concludes. I won't say
"totally", but yes, it created several important discontinuities.
Overall I've been enjoying it.

The biggest difficulty I had with it is suspending disbelief that Queens
can stand in for Miami but the original series had moved production out
of Miami too; I guess that's consistent.

They shot the pilot in Miami but when it got picked up to series, production
moved to California. They shot mainly in Long Beach. That's where the house
Dexter lived in with Julie Benz was located and there were many scenes of
dramatic sunsets over the water, which, just like with CSI:HORATIO, don't
occur in Florida but the producers were betting you were too stupid to notice
that. You get sun*rises* over the water in Florida.

Wasn't this intended to be a Miami production? I vaguely recall that
Florida had big subsidies since Miami Vice (although I don't recall that
Miami Vice was subsidized) that expired. Nip/Tuck had been produced in
Miami and moved production elsewhere. There were two or three other
Miami-based productions that also ended or left.
