In 2024, a woman filed a fraudulent title transfer deed on a home
belonging to a dentist. Now, after getting these title clouds correct,
which can cost the victims serious cash in legal fees plus lots of time,
there's no way to prosecute the scammer who has typically disappeared.
Sometimes these documents may be filed on line so the scammer was never
physically in the jurisdiction in which the crime occurred.
Apparently, there was some inference that the woman might not understand
legal proceedings. The judge ordered her to obtain a forensic
examination to make this determination. She said she wouldn't undergo
this voluntarily, and then missed a court date.
The judge ordered her arrest and made her subject to a secure bond of
$500,000, which requires cash or collateral.
The only way to bring fraudsters to justice is to make sure they are in
custody till trial.

You'd never manage that in this country, at least as long as the Liberals are the governing party. Justin Trudeau distinguished himself from his predecessors by enacting laws that force judges to give bail except for practically all circumstances.
Virtually every story I see about someone being arrested for something in this country includes the information that one of the charges they are facing is failing to honour their bail conditions, meaning they were already out on bail when they committed their latest crime. I should point out that violating bail conditions apparently DOESN'T prevent them from getting bail on the charges for the crimes they committed while out on bail; at most, they may get some additional bail conditions.
I know the Conservatives hope to make bail harder to get if they win the next election but that's not as certain as it was before Trump started his tariff war.
On the plus side, we will have a new leader of the Liberal Party TOMORROW, although he may not be sworn in for a few days. The bad news is that the new leader, who is almost certain to be Mark Carney, is going to continue all the same stupid policies as Trudeau. I don't picture him reducing bail availability.
