 There were a lot of them.  Every prior M appeared in a portrait somewhere in MI-6 HQ at points in the movie is one example.
 

I loved the M portraits.  Of course don't even begin to ask about this Bond being a reboot!  After all, we didn't ask about Judi Dench returning, so why ask about this.  :-)
