"Grey's Anatomy" star Eric Dane reveals he's been diagnosed with ALS
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"Grey's Anatomy" star Eric Dane said Thursday that he has been
diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, a rare
degenerative condition that causes progressive muscle paralysis.
Yeah, I saw this - this sucks. Guy can't seem to catch a break. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I saw this science article today about a research breakthrough at McGill University in Montreal that could conceivably help Dane:
https://healthenews.mcgill.ca/mcgill-discovery-sheds-new-light-on-autism-intellectual-disabilities/The relevant paragraph is:
========================================================================
Beyond autism and intellectual disability, AMPA receptors play a role in a range of neurological disorders, including ALS, glaucoma, dementia and glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer, the researchers said. This breakthrough opens the door to drug development that targets AMPA receptors, offering hope for patients with these conditions.

Given the length of time it can take for basic research to turn into actual treatments, I don't know if it is realistic for Eric Dane to be helped as a result of this discovery but it may well help people a few years down the road.
