Maybe Horny Goat can weigh in on this one; this is the first I'm hearing of this. I live thousands of miles east of this and haven't seen anything in the news about it. The federal election seems to be pre-occupying the media's attention right now....
Hmm. A quick search turned up this article which talks about the same (or similar) phenomenon and has a date of Dec 12 2024:
