Have you ever looked at Musescore, especially recently?
Not OP, but I switched from Finale to Musescore about half a year ago, before they announced the death, and I've been very happy with it. Better support for microtonality and feather-beaming and stuff like that. I haven't tried Dorico yet, but haven't felt the need to either.
