It being Saturday I did a more intensive search for
information about this. It turns out that the HD-P2
does have a backup of the factory firmware. I'll
outline how to use it here, so that some future
solution seeker might be able to find it.
Hold Display and Play while turning unit on. It goes
into a self diagnostic mode.
Hold Project and Stop buttons while turning on device.
It boots from a stored copy of the shipped firmware.
Now you still have to install the firmware as usual
from the System menu or you'll have to do this each
time you boot.
So the HD-P2 lives to fight another day.
Tobiah
