Congratulations on guessing right on the question of bike helmets. But
most people would be ashamed to confess that they purposely make
decisions out of ignorance.

One of the most ignorant things one can do is take unsolicited advice
from a stranger with an agenda.
The advertising business is based on distributing unsolicited advice
from a stranger. The agenda is to sell you something. Obtaining
advice on the internet, by searching with Google search, might
constitute unsolicited advice. It's a gray area because joing a
Usenet support group could be considered asking for advice from
strangers.
Remember, everyone has an agenda.
Not really. Altruists, do-good-things groups, save the world
organizations, and some non-profits all claim to not have an agenda,
or at least not have a profit based agenda. I've learned to be wary
of such people and groups. I don't have a problem dealing with those
who have an obvious and clearly state purpose for offering advice. I
know what they expect from me and what I should expect from them. They
don't need to be my friend for me to decide if I should follow their
advice. If they offer advice, I'll listed if they can substantiate
their claims. If their claims, proofs and explanations are mostly hot
air, their advice is likely to be more of the same, as has been the
case with most celebrity endorsements.
