 I had to guess at most of the parameters:
 Weight = 180 lbs
 "a couple of oz" = 2 oz
 Cognac is about 50% alcohol
 "last night" sleep time = 8 hrs.
 
 I suspect that 2 oz of cognac is wrong and that "a couple of
 oz" really means the traditional "tulip glass" which is 6 oz.

However, you're right.  I didn't notice that such tulip glasses always
are shown partly filled.  From the original text, I interpreted "a
couple of oz" to mean two oz.

Much if the enjoyment of fine brandy involves the aroma. You're
supoose cup your hand around the bottm if the snifter to warm the
brandy and release the aroma.
