Going back a few centuries, their landed aristocracy was very
different from today's commercial aristocracy. For example, they were
not expected to do any form of paying work. Money came from the
possession of land in the form of crops and rents. The disparity
between the wealthy and the poor was sufficiently huge that they
rarely had to think about "earning a living" and other such mundane
activities. Similarly, their son's grew up in the same environment
and rarely needed to think about acquiring skills and getting their
hands dirty.
