That's never, ever happened with my friction shifters! ;-)
I suspect that Mr. Andrew has never had the problem with his "Fixi"
either :-)
Wait.... The shifter locks up? Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see any
reason for having the shifter lock up because it thinks you crashed.
Maybe someone will enlighten me?

It’s so it doesn’t harm its self, I believe I guess like “safe mode” some
car engine will run in if they have a fault.
I guess with mechanical systems you’d be able to tell and not shift if
something was in the way, vs Electronics it could force something, which
could harm the rear mech.
