"Quick Draw satirized the westerns that were popular among
the American public at the time. His character was
well-intentioned, but somewhat dim. His main catchphrases
were "Now hold on there!" and "I'll do the thin'in' around
here and don't you forget it!" Also if he got hurt he would
often say "Ooooh that smarts!" One of the main running gags
in the shorts was him accidentally shooting himself with
his
own six-shooter."

In contrast, here, over the years I've read innumerable
reports of
someone attempting to rob a gold shop and the owner pops
out of the
back room with a gun and shoots the robber, usually
killing him. No
charges made.

What would be pertinent would be innumerable reports of old
folks in Florida going for a walk in their residential
neighborhoods in Florida and having to shoot... well,
whoever Mr. Tricycle fantasizes would attack him.

It's, just as cycling in traffic, a personal evaluation of
risk and extremely situational besides personal.

One man's "oh, conflict with threat to life is unlikely" can
easily be another man's "better to have it unnecessarily
than to need it and not carry". YMMV and I'm sure it does.
intention of using. I carry a spare derailleur hanger and nail
clippers. I used the nail clippers today on my right side little toe.
I also carry rain gear and jack knife.
Well, actually, I carry a jack knife everywhere other than to bed.
