Well, yes that does happen with disturbing frequency but with huge local variance.
Let's put things into a perspective:
In each of the legislations mentioned, it is possible to hold people in jail until the trial date if necessary (risk of interfering in Police investigations, risk of repeat offence, risk of absconding where bail seems insufficient).
In each of the legislations, it is possible to release people before trial if it is not necessary to jail them.
With overloaded courts and often several years of waiting for a trial, it would be plain inappropriate to jail people for crimes with a maximum sentence of a few months.
