Maybe. However, I'm sympathetic. When my father died, I was stuck
(by default) with handling the funeral arrangements. I did my best,
but made more than a few mistakes. The family vultures (relatives)
were all circling. I had years to prepare, but it came as a shock
anyway. I wasn't thinking clearly. A family friend recognized the
problem and jumped in to help me. The mortuary staff completed the
forms for the obituary and made a mess of them. I had to fix it after
friends and relatives noticed the errors when printed versions were
handed out at the funeral. After the funeral, there was a small
reception at the family house. There was wine on the table, but I
don't recall seeing anyone drinking wine. I would have loved to drink
myself into a semi-conscious stupor, but didn't.
It was not a pleasant time for me and I can understand why Tom (or
someone else) might have made mistakes on the obituary. However, I
can't understand why Tom wouldn't correct them later. Surely the
adopted children and relatives would have eventually noticed.
