Deiter, I have found that hot waxing a chain is the ideal lubricant
under any condition. I happen to have all of the necessary ingredients
and mechanisms to do it myswelf but lacking those I would buy the
"special blend" hot wax and the hot pot toi apply it from Silca. They
also sell a wax treatment that you can use between full treatments as a
semi-liquid wax treatment that you could apply and allow to dry overnight.
This has two effects - everything remains remarkably clean and the chain
and sprockets make very little if any noise.
I'm done with wax based lubes. I'm going back to Finish Line dry
teflon lube when I put the new chain on.
I do like how clean the drip on ones are, such as Squirt don?t last long
with wet weather, such as this spring!
Some of the all weather ones seem to stay fairly, clean and resist being
washed out!

I've used Finish Line Dry for years until I switched to White
Lightning for this chain. It looks like I'll get the same mileage out
of this chain, but I hate how the wax builds up on everything and
won't come off with regular cleaning solvent.
If anything the drip on wax based stuff, is cleaner than oil based.
I use squirt on the commute bike and the others in dry weather as it?s so
clean does wash off fairly easily so one needs to either apply regularly or
switch to different lube in wet weather.

The wax based White lightning I've been using doesn't wash off without
nasty mineral spirits.
The Finish Line Dry cleans with biodegradable solvent.

Cant say Ive ever purposefully de lubed Squirt which seems to be similar
to White Lighting ie wax based lube, and within reason keep applying. Which
I do on the commute bike, as the distances are low and it keeps it clean.

The MTB and Gravel bike wet rides will wash out such a lube, admittedly
its clean but its also gone or for most part, hence using either wet oil
based or trying some of the all purpose stuff, such as Fenwicks which while
does leave a black/grey colour ie doesnt look as clean seems to work well
at least in filthy conditions! Ie doesnt gum up like a wet lube.

The side plates of my chain have a brownish gray coating which scrapes
off with a knife. Yes, I do wipe off the xs after lubing, but it still
coats the side plates. It doesn't cause any harm, but it looks dirty.
