In the distant past, AT&T's solution to
the spam problem was to blacklist the spammers mail server IP (which
doesn't change with DHCP).  The problem is that the internet was
running out IP addresses.  So, mail, DNS and web servers were
configured to share literally hundreds of domains from a single server
IP address.  In AT&T's typical lack of wisdom, if one person sent spam
from an AT&T mail server, and AT&T blocked the servers IP address,
literally EVERYONE that sends or received email from that server ends
up on the blacklist.  Add virtual hosting, email via VPN, DNS based
load balancing, etc and blacklists are almost useless.
 Most ISP's have recognized the problem and instituted easy ways to be
removed from a blacklist.  In the past, I've had to use these tools
quite often for myself and my customers.  AT&T was a bit late to clean
up their act, but eventually did the right thing:

There is no reason that AT&T should be "filtering email from
Eternal-September.org.  The DNS MX record for Eternal-September.org
shows that they run their own mail servers and don't need any help
from AT&T servers:

It's AT&T email servers that blacklist ES, not AT&T in general.

 That's normally one way that it's done.  However, I should point out
that Eternal-September does not off email service to anyone.  The only
involvement of email to/from ES is handling a few messages needed for
user registration.

yes, that's what the message posted on the ES homepage says
  Usenet news uses the NNTP protocol and not the

various email protocols (SMTP, POP3, iMAP3, etc).  Unless I'm missing
something from Tom's distorted view of his internet service, email is
not used by Tom reading or sending Usenet news messages.
 

Tommy is using Yahoo as his email client. Yahoo is majority owned by
Apollo Global Management with a minority stake held by Verizon. IOW -
AT&Ts blacklist has no effect on a Yahoo address event if AT&T is his ISP.

 Sorta.  ATT abandoned their formerly free email services but kept the
commercial paid email service.  att.net is the former free internet
service.  att.com is the commercial (paid) email service.
 If I try to login to my former Yahoo account at:

I get redirected to the ATT mail login at:
<https://signin.att.com>
Note that the ES web page says that att.net (former free email domain)
cannot be used to register.  However, yahoo points to att.com which
probably will work.
 

Tommy would be able to register with ES.org using his Yahoo address, the
problem is he can't figure out how to do it.

 In Jan 2024, when Google Groups was going to stop accepting Usenet
traffic, Tom claimed that he already had an ES account.  I'm not going
to try and find the quote.

He did, and also commented that he couldn't read the messages in the group through ES (showing very clearly how well he doesn't understand how it works).
