I rather admire Frankie's notions. Shooting is no benefit to anyone.
Although he is certainly wrong as it was certainly beneficial to me.
I was on the base pistol team and won the Maine State Pistol
Championship and the Vermont State Pistol Championship pistol matches
and was selected to shoot on the Strategic Air Command Team in the
Inter Service Matches the same year. There is no doubt in my mind that
went a long way in my being promoted that same year.
Ah, John. Re-read what I said. Note the phrase "in civilian hands."
Target shooting does not get civilians promoted. Target shooting is a
game, just as is golf or bowling. It may be amusing, but it does
nothing _practical_, unless you're practicing to go hunting.
And target shooting with an AR is probably even less practical.
Most of the nation feels the same about cycling.
True, because most of the nation never uses a bike for anything
practical. In fact, there are some posting here who have bragged about
never using a bike for anything practical.
But biking for transportation saves wear on cars, provides exercise and
increases longevity. In many cases, it even saves time, especially when
searching for a car parking spot is factored in. (In big city
competitions, bike commuters almost always beat car commuters.)
Some of us posting here have long made practical use of bikes. I thought
you were one. But nobody here has described making truly practical use
of an AR-style rifle.
<EYEROLL> What kind of logic deficiency does Krygowski have that he
doesn't understand the meaning of the word "practical." Are not his
group bicycle rides practical even though they end up exactly where
they started from? Recreation of any kind is practical. Most social
activity is practical. Throwing a baseball around with your grandson
is practical. Target shooting is practical.
about half my time on the bike if not the distance.
None of my bikes have been bought for utility but converted to it, ie added
bags and so on.
Clearly with the amount of guns Americas own this like bikes is leisure
than utility, in my experience working guns are shotguns or hunting rifles.
