Anyone here cycled in Yellowstone during the short time they allow bikes only and no cars. Seems like it might be hit or miss and you might run in bears instead of dogs. I think it would be cool to try this but I would not want to have to carry maybe all you need for a ride. I wonder if there are alternatives that are just as good.
Well, I've biked just a little in Yellowstone the times we've camped there. I had my mountain bike but rode mostly on roads. It was fine.
With my wife and daughter, we did go down one path in the woods where bicycling was allowed, trying to get to some waterfall. After just a couple hundred yards, we came upon a steaming pile of (probably) bear poop on the trail. We turned around an rode back out to the road.
In Glacier NP, we rode by a mama bear and two cubs about 50 yards away in a meadow. They were totally uninterested in us.
