ANyone here use direct drive trainers? Thinking of getting Tacx Neo t2
or possible a Saris H3. Right now and for all years cycling have just
used a wheel on fluid trainer. To me it works and I have never used any
cycling apps like Zwift. I just sit and go ride looking at speed and
heart rate.
I bought a Tacx Neo 2T (T2875) about two years ago. Both my wife and I
use it regularely*). Both of us don't use cycling apps or online
services like Zwift.  Instead, we use our cycling computers
(1030plus/1040) in combination with training scripts created via Garmin
Connect. For somewhat dubious reasons, Garmin doesn't document or
advertize that feature much, so one has to explore what is
possible/supported and what is not.
For example, while self made scripts aka trainings can be copied between
devices via USB, or created both on the web via Connect or on the Edge
10xx devices, it isn't possible to import those back into Garmin
Connect, for editing. One-way only, so to speak.
In addition, for some features that can be demonstrated on the device
(for example riding on cobblestones), there is no way of scripting that
feature in a training.  I guess Garmin gets some money from services
like Zwift for being able to script that capability. :-(
In any case, it is possible, for example, to script an interval training
session as several nested loops, including a warmup and cool down phase,
in such a way that it does not use fixed values for heart rate or power,
but training zones derived from the actuall maximum heart rate and FTP.
*) Well, actually I don't, currently, but that's another story.
