Ugly looking bruise. I've seen a few large bruises along the
waistline, but nothing that was so large and uniform. Usually, the
bruise is "splotchy" and uneven because of the uneven distribution of
fat in the area:

I doubt that it was faked or photoshopped. I'm just wondering what he
hit to make it happen.
Also, we know all about potholes in my area of the planet. From 1996:

This was about automobiles, but could apply to bicycles.

I'm not sure that is a "pot hole" :-)
It's a sink hole or sinkhole.
"What is the difference between a sinkhole and a pothole?"
<
https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/what-difference-between-a-sinkhole-and-a-pothole>
"A sinkhole is a closed natural depression in the ground surface
caused by removal of material below the ground and either collapse or
gradual subsidence of the surface into the resulting void. A pothole
is usually a fairly small feature caused by failure of paving
materials, usually associated with roads, parking lots, and airports."
I still believe that potholes are caused by asphalt eating gophers or
dinosaur foot prints.
There is also "land subsidence":
"What is the difference between a sinkhole and land subsidence?"
<
https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/what-difference-between-a-sinkhole-and-land-subsidence>
"Sinkholes are just one of many forms of ground collapse, or
subsidence. Land subsidence is a gradual settling or sudden sinking of
the Earths surface owing to subsurface movement of earth materials."
I suppose this monster sink hole deserves it's own distinctive name:

yearly"
