So you don't use STI?
I do not. My six speed drivetrain is fine, adequate to my
riding.

I freely admit that tastes differ. I guess you can get Shimano stepped freewheels now. But pretending that you don't have to power off while shifting an old Mavic straight cut gear freewheel is why people used to break chains. If memory serves, you had to be careful starting out from a stop in the morning because if you stood up on the pedals to power away and the chain and the shifter weren't matched, you could and often did break chains. Of course Krygowski believes that no one accelerates off of a stop.
No, Tom, you're dishonestly trying to revise what you claimed.

Nobody has said that they don't reduce power while shifting. That's
common practice. But you claimed people _stopped_ pedaling. That doesn't
work unless you're shifting a hub gear, like a Sturmey-Archer three speed.

And it's blindingly obvious that bicyclists must accelerate from a stop.
With no acceleration, there's no motion. But you claimed (almost?) all
cyclists accelerate at their maximum capability. That's flat out
foolish. Why would someone burn themselves out that way?
