I'd hoped to get at least one more ride in before the end of the year,
but on the 27th, the day I'd scheduled a ride, my wife woke up with a
terrible case of influenza. She had a terrible dry cough, a high
temperature, nausea, and was weakened to the point of not being able
to walk. I rushed her to the hospital and there she and I sat until
yesterday afternoon when she'd recovered enough to come home.

We'd spent Christmas day at relatives home, and come to find out,
almost everyone at that get together was now suffering the flu. Even
though I'm ten years older than my wife, and at 80 years old, most
likely more vulnerable to such things, I seem to have escaped the
nasty thing.

The flu going around this year seems to be particularly bad, so
everyone beware.

So now, with rain predicted for today and tomorrow, my total ride data
for 2024 will close out at only 43 rides and 2103 miles.

I skipped a couple of days for icy roads in a lingering sleet but had a
reasonably nice ride this morning. Would have been better without the
damp wind.

I have had a running nose and a bit of upper respiratory thing going on
for now almost 4 weeks. No temperature and not really feeling bad at
all but stuff all above throat. No chest congestion or sore throat so I
don't know.
Sinusitis?

However the past week except for some rainy days been ok. I rode today
41 miler temp at 38 but no wind at all. I managed on Saturday to churn
out a 54 mile temp ride my fastest and longest since the gravel crash in
May with broken collarbone and metacarpals and trochanter. Outside miles
of course down but I was able to ride inside pretty decent this year.

The flu is bad probably worse than COVID
If it's avian H1N5 , yes(current nasty just starting to make
the rounds. Mortality rate of up to 50%).
Otherwise, no. Covid was worse.
