The simple fact is that somebody decided a long time ago that an
arbitrary time should be the designated ending of one day and the
beginning of the next. I suspect there was a group thinking session to
decide on the exact raltionship to the sun that designation should be.
Simiarly, a designated relationship with the sun was group thought to
detirmine the day to start counting days.

Now, after many years, people still get together to celebrate those
group thinking session by unknown people, as if they were signicant of
something.
As for me, a new day does not really begin until I wake up and
acknowledge it. A new year does not really begin until I acknowledge
springtime.

Yeah, I'm a bit grouchy because of being woke up by the sound of
fireworks going off. Three and a half hours of sleep is not going to
work for me, so now, when I finish my 2nd cup of coffee coffee, I'm
going back to bed.
I had my usual coffee and some reading at the diner, then went out
to find the newspaper. None to be had, an hour of driving around to
no avail. It's 28 with light snow, not much accumulation, and
windy. New Year's Day ride coming up in four hours will be the high
point of the day.
All the best, and to all of you on RBT!
Up at 3:45 coffee and walked 2.75 miles outside. Very cold so came in
and finished with 1 mile on treadmill walking. Went to Mass and when I
got home I put 27 miles on the indoor trainer. 124 watts 17.3 mph. It
is way to windy to ride outside. I might go out to walmart and get a
few items just to get out of the house a bit. I have a thing now for
these butter rum lifesavers hard candy.

Oh my brother made yesterday homemade french onion soup. It is great
with some croutons and mozz cheese on top. Great stuff with a
sandwich.
I had to have some greens and black eyed peas today; I think that's kind
of like going to Mass. Used a bicycle to pick them up. I was a little
worried that I might have to visit multiple stores to find black eyed
peas, but the first down market Market Basket had plenty. Goya, it's
an institution around here.
Drizzly but warmer than seasonal here, and the black eyed peas were delicious.
