Indeed it’s a useful skill set though not everyone will be comfortable to
do so depending on the situation, ie it’s not the answer to
everyone/everything.

 
Correct. It requires a certain level of confidence, bravery, whatever.
 
When I was teaching cycling classes one woman could not complete the
final "road test" exam because she couldn't summon the courage to ride
one portion of four lane! And I remember another woman who, on a bike
club ride I led, was terribly scared because we rode a mile on a four
lane, even when it had very little traffic.
 
Some people are more fearful than other people. For many people, courage
to ride among traffic takes time to grow. Many others never acquire it.
 
 

Indeed though I’d say it’s more useful for general use for folks, than for
that time you ride on that big scary road/junction or what ever.

Ie a default style of riding which quite apart from safety ie visibility,
also means less likely to collect gutter debris, also gives space away from
the door zone and so on, and the visibility that you’ve moved in let’s the
driver know you’ve seen them and so on.

It’s a generally useful way to ride, beyond tackling big highways and so
on.
