That's the joy of tariffs. I pay 60 - 80% import tax on any
electronic component(computers, cellphones, security cameras, shavers
etc). Same for any bicycle component."To stimulate the production in
Brazil".
The law is from 1990. 34 years later and Brazil still produces
nothing... They are practically all imported from China...( a few from
India)

Assembled by low-tech workers in Manaus and Atibaia.
Their slogan is "We still make cyclists in Brazil".
It's been a long time since Caloi and Monark practically
monopolized the industry here. And when I bought my 28" Caloi back in
1976.
