Using much of the Beryl Burton equipment, here's an example
from when road racing bikes were 21lb.

Notice that that bike is a 52 sm or so. Small bikes wee surprisingly
light since all of the xcomponents and wheels all wwighed the same.
Some of mu bikes (60 cm) are as heavy as 24 lbs and at my old average
speed before 2024, I couldn't tell any real difference. Of course this
was when hill roads were open. They are still mostly closed. California
isn't repairing anything.
My BMC is 19 lbs without water of flat kit. My latest DeRosa Idol will be
20 lbs. My DeRosa Merak is 20 lbs, My Colnago Dream HP is 22 lbs. My Moser M82 is 21 lbs.
Beryl Burton was a Time Trial specialist would seem she got better as the
distances increased, she was faster over 12hrs than the men for good few
years, averaging 23mph! Weight wasn’t even then for the mainly though not
entirely TTs she did some road racing where weight would absolutely be more
of factor but riding at 25/23mph down a fairly flat TT course as most TT
are being able to get into the drops and hold it and ie aero and keep
pushing out the power matters.
Not the sort of racing that weight was particularly important.
