A few years ago, we had the first and only fatality in our 265 acre
nature preserve's history. The guy was a middle aged mountain biker and
fitness enthusiast, not known to me but known well by some of my
friends, mostly through their contact at a local gym.

He was in Spain Frank, while hypothermia is possible it is unlikely that he would be unconscious long enough to become hypothermic. More likely a broken neck disconnecting blood flow to the brain.
You (and I) do not know the altitude. Or much else for that matter.
