Years ago, when I was still shooting, our team competed at the
Massachusetts State Pistol Matches. A team from the Army Academe also
attended and their coach was a guy named "Joe Benner"one of the really
great pistol shooters of the times -- six national championships
between 1947 and 1959, The International Shooting Sports Federation,
ISSF), including Free Pistol (World Champion, 1954 and Olympic
Champion, 1952), Rapid-Fire Pistol (World Champion 1949 and 1952) and
Center-Fire Pistol (World Champion, 1949 and so on.

As military groups tend to associate with other military groups, we
all talk the same language :-) and our "Chief" was the same rank as
Benner they chatted during the matches. (As I was a lower rank I just
got to listen :-)

So for about 4 days I sat and listened to one of the greatest pistol
shooters of his times talk, and never once did I hear him say, "I
did", I said, I was called" and all the other glamorous terms I read
here.

I can only assume that a real "master of his trade", as it were,
doesn't need to brag.

Says the guy who just bragged about competing in the Massachusetts
State Pistol Matches. How ironic! :-)

Camp Perry matches are a Big Deal and have been since 1907.

Open to anyone, even you.

And that should raise the following question: How do we tell when a
person is "bragging" or when a person is just mentioning something
they've done?

For John and the guy who rides only a tricycle, the standard seems to be
that if I mention anything, I'm "bragging." If _they_ mention anything,
it's done in perfect humility.

I think that's an absurdly biased standard.

BTW, qualifying for and earning a Professional Engineering license is
open to everyone, just like competing in a shooting match. So are most
of the other things I've done, including many I didn't bother to mention.
And again a bit of "bull shit" in the pudding...
"earning a Professional Engineering license is open to everyone, just
like competing in a shooting match. "
Nope, ain't true as nearly all States demand a collage education plus
1 year's experience before they let you take the engineering test.

And John, a college education in engineering is open to everyone. So are
jobs in engineering. Or at least, those things are open to everyone with
enough intelligence. I assume you chose not to pursue those things, just
as I chose not to pursue formal shooting competitions.
Ah Frankie, back to your old tricks again. You tell a lie, i.e. an
untruth, and you are corrected. You then change the subject... just
as Tom does. Although Tom does seems to be doing it less frequently
recently.
Exhibit #1... "a college education in engineering is open to
everyone."?
Really? Just walk into the collage and tell them I want an
engineering educations and Bingo! You become a collage student?
