I presume even in US that the majority of gun crime is with folks who know
each other. Ie not just opportunistic crime.

For the last decade or so, having a gun is becoming more popular and
gun laws more lax in the USA. People who fear guns and argue against
them are not convincing anyone.

requires are Federal laws - possession of a machine gun, for example,
requires a Federal license. And there are state laws, a number have
been mentioned here about carrying a gun, and towns and cities may
also have gun laws.
