Pleasant surprise when I got back to my truck after my ride. Someone
had left a little note with a ribbon and a small sprig of flowers. The
note was a simple Easter blessing. There was no phone number to call,
no website or church to visit, just a Happy Easter from a lady (She
signed it and I'm sure I don't know her) who had a happy thought and
passed it on. I'm sure my truck wasn't the only vehicle that received
the blessing.

I only did 40 miles today because it was very hot, 90 F and very windy
20MPH, and 60+ humidity, too.

The new front derailleur worked perfect every time I ran it through
it's paces. I brought tools to fine tune it, but they weren't needed.

I've been wearing street shoes, sandals on the last two rides thanks
to the heel sling pedals. I guess I no longer can claim not liking to
walk around in SPD shoes as an excuse to not ride my bike to the
grocery store.

I have definitely advantage over gravel club mates as I use FiveTens so
flat pedal shoes vs clip less on any hike and bike!

Which isn’t why I wear them but slightly amusing on wet cobbled stuff!

I had to look up "fivetens." They appear to be very expensive. The
sandals I buy are dirt cheap, and I very seldom wear anything else. I
require a close toe and a full heel rather than just a heel strap. I
tend to roll forward on the balls of my feet when I walk and I walk
out of shoes without a good heel. I've tried two different pairs of
sandals on bike rides and both worked fine.

They are sports stuff and certainly the model I have are reinforced against
rock strikes, and so on. Being Down Hill focused but I like the stiff
platform, and despite their weight are popular as they pedal well.

I have used non cycling shoes on the commute and even on that fairly light
use have just disintegrated let alone on a gravel/MTB ride which is to some
margin more demanding.

And flat pedal cycling shoes top out at much lower price point than
Clippless which tend to go for carbon this and that. £300+ without much
effort.

I did get some winter boots for the bog snorkelling that happens last year
which made this winter a lot more comfortable aka dryer! Those are about as
expensive as Flat shoes go so sub £200 most will be just over a ton.
