If thunderbird is slow on your PC it isn't an issue with Thunderbird. I'm running it on two laptops with no speed issues. The issues you're running into are more likely with ES. It's a free service (donation based) being managed by a small team for little money. The fastest/best PC and internet connectivity aren't going to help with that.
Also, Outlook isn't a newsreader, so you won't be able to access RBT with it, and besides a basic outlook email account is free. If you want additional cloud storage, there's a fee.
