I've done it before, but with limited success. I'm sadly monolingual, so I wasn't able to help much as the various people I've conversed with searched for English words.
This couple was not quite that bad. He was the owner of what must be a pretty prosperous farm in Germany. He described having several hired hands, and they told us a bit about their travel on several continents. But there was much pausing to think of words, etc.
